Diploma Course in Digital Filmmaking.

Curriculum

Course Duration: 2 semesters/modules, ca. 30 weeks.

Time Commitment: ca. 10 teaching units per week, ca. 30 weeks, 300 teaching units in total.

Mandatory Classes: 96 units

Independent Projects, Practice, Homework: 150 units

Exam Preparation: 54 units

This distance learning course in Digital Filmmaking includes 3 optional attendance days in Vienna. The course can be fully completed online, with class recordings available. Optional on-site sessions are offered at the LIK Academy for Photography and Design Vienna on dates DF 1, DF 2, and DF 3.

Semester 1:

LIK Film 1: Introduction - technical basics and creative composing options

Course schedule - Overview - Technical basics - Camera settings - Film formats -  Resolutions - Basic terminology - Avoiding beginner mistakes - Important filmmaking rules - Axis jump - Axis of action - Analysis of different video formats and themes - Sharpening perception - Aesthetical composing options - Online formats in social media

LIK Film 2: Practice-oriented lesson - Camera handling

Camera operation- Practical exercises for interesting videos - Panning and tracking shots - Use of different lenses and accessories - Trying out gimbals - Steadycam - Setting up interview stations - Introduction to lighting design in film - Practical lighting for interviews - Axis jumps - Headroom - Noseroom - Image composition - Image structure - focus play.

LIK Film 3: Sound technology - Microphones - Recording - Music design

You will learn about the different ways of recording sound. Microphones, mixing consoles, music editing and interview design. Overview and introduction to the essential basics of film sound. Music design in film - License-free music - Recording interviews - Practical exercise

LIK Film 4: From idea to production - Conception - Conducting interviews

Learning objective: Conception of an image film/product film/advertising film

What is an idea? What do you need for it? What can be realized? What does the customer want? Brand presence, CI, etc. - What should be conveyed? How do I create a shot list? How is a script structured?

LIK Film 5: Video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro CC - The basics

From importing the filmed scenes to the finished edited film. After this course day you will be able to cut film sequences, add music, apply basic effects, insert text and render the finished cut. Stabilization of shaky footage.

LIK Film 6: Theory exam + practical exam and editing

LIK Film 9: Special effects with Adobe After Effects CC

Basics of the program interface - Working with layers - Compositing in 2D and 3D - Tracking film material - Integrating texts and elements in drone videos - Creating 3D layers - Animating - Virtual tracking shots - Working with keyframes - Practical exercises

LIK Film 10: Practice day 1

Implementation of the previously learned content in a (joint) film project (music video/ image film) Learning objective: Practical application of the acquired knowledge and perfecting it under supervision.

LIK Film 11: Practice day 2

Implementation of the previously learned content in a (joint) film project (music video/image film)

LIK Film 12: Theory and practice exam in film and editing
